USER DEFINED FIELDS IN CNExT AND HOW THEY CAN BE USED TO INCREASE REGISTRY VALUE

Have you ever been approached by physicians, administration or by other entities in your hospital to track data items that are not “required” to be collected, and wondered is this possible, and if so how can I do this?  This tracking can easily be accomplished in CNExT by using the User-Defined Fields feature.  Several of our CNExT customers have started utilizing this feature to track data and run reports on user-defined fields in some very creative ways.  Some examples follow.

Slidell Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Louisiana started a special study for hospital initiated cases after hurricane Katrina and Rita to help track treatment given or not given and the treatment sequencing issues related to these patients.  The study included evacuees, relocated and transient patients.  Thelma Draughter, CTR said “the user defined fields in CNExT were easy to use, once codes and descriptions are thought out ahead of time.  This requires some critical thinking in order to achieve the desired results, but I love this part of tumor registry work”.

Hendricks Regional Health in Indiana, has implemented the user-defined fields on their 2007 cases to assist with the C0C standard 4.6 for CAP protocols.  The CoC requires that 90% of pathology that include a cancer diagnosis will contain the scientifically validated data elements outlined on the surgical case summary checklist of the College of Pathologists (CAP) publication Reporting on Cancer Specimens . As Tammy Horvath, LPN, CTR is processing casefinding, she is doing concurrent CAP review of her top 5 sites.  She is hopeful that capturing this information in a User-Defined field will help the pathologists see how well they are meeting the CoC program standard 4.6.

CNExT allows 255 user-defined data items per database table for collecting additional information for your registry. There are 20 tables in the CNExT database so the capacity to create user-defined items is nearly without limit.  CNExT has what it takes to meet the data needs of your medical and administrative staff!

HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW MP/H HELP TOOL IN CNEXT?

Last spring, C/NET Solutions released its new Multiple Primary/Histology Help Tool.  The tool was developed by Alan Houser, Research Scientist at C/NET Solutions, to assist registrars in applying the correct rules and coding schemes according to the new requirements for reporting multiple primaries and histologies.  The MP/H Tool is available while in the CNExT abstract and guides the registrar through the decision rules.  Our customers are finding this tool very useful and one has stated that she doesn’t need advanced MP/H training thanks to this new CNExT feature!  Sign up today for a mini-demo to see this new MP/H Help feature in CNExT.
